Buckeye police: Woman dies after being shot by stray bullet

Police said this happened in an area where people go target shooting.

BUCKEYE, Ariz. - A woman has died after being shot in the chest by a stray bullet in the desert near Interstate 10 and Miller Road Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to Buckeye police, the woman was injured several miles north of Tonopah Salome Highway and Miller Road.She was transported in critical condition to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Monday morning, police identified the victim as 24-year-old Kami Gilstrap of Goodyear, Arizona.

Police said this happened in an area where people go target shooting and hundreds of people were in the area at the time of the incident.

The type of bullet the victim was shot yet has not been released. Police said no suspects have been identified at this time due to the amount of people in the area at the time of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
