Bicyclist killed after being hit by car in Chandler

CHANDLER, Ariz — A 77-year-old man died after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle last Saturday, according to Chandler police. 

Police say the accident happened around 9 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Lindsay Road and Hunt Highway. 

The victim was riding his bike east on Hunt Highway and was in the bike lane when he was hit by a 2011 Kia sport SUV. The bicyclist died at the scene. 

The car was being driven by a 38-year-old man. He was turning onto Hunt Highway from Pearl Drive.  

Police say the man was not impaired, but they do believe he was distracted. They are expecting to file charges.  

Neither the driver or the victim have been identified.
