Authorities: Man shot by US Marshals Tuesday was 71 years old

Police say three marshals contacted Craig Allen at a north Phoenix home and he pointed a gun at them.

U.S. Marshals shot and killed a 71-year-old man Tuesday morning in north Phoenix, police said. 

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department arrived on the scene near Central Avenue and Hatcher Road to assist three U.S. Marshals conducting a fugitive investigation who reported there was an officer-involved shooting. 

Police identified the suspect Wednesday as 71-year-old Craig Allen. 

According to Phoenix police, Allen was contacted in his backyard where he pointed a handgun at the Supervisory Deputy Marshal. An accompanying Deputy Marshal fired his service weapon and shot Allen, ending the threat. 

Allen was pronounced deceased at the scene and no officers were injured. According to police, he was wanted for probation violation by the Northern District of Texas.

The Phoenix Police Department are investigating the situation.
