PHOENIX - Phoenix fire crews worked overnight to put out a massive fire at a golf clubhouse.

Firefighters responded to a first alarm fire at the Ahwatukee Lakes Golf Course clubhouse near 44th Street and Knox Road at about 12 a.m. Monday.

Fire officials said the building was vacant and the fire was called in by someone passing by.

Phoenix, Chandler and Tempe Fire Departments worked together to put out the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In a statement, the property owner, True Life Companies writes in part:

“We are very disappointed to learn of last night’s incident at the Ahwatukee Lakes Clubhouse, but incredibly thankful to the Phoenix Fire Department for their swift action to control the fire. As soon as the site has been cleared, we will secure the clubhouse and surrounding area for the safety of the Ahwatukee community. And upon completion of the authorities’ investigation regarding how the fire started, we will enact swift remediation of the site.”
