SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Scottsdale Police Department says 22-year-old Jadyn Curtis has been arrested in connection to the murder and sexual assault of a homeless woman in June.
Paulette Larwinski, 70, was taken to a hospital in critical condition after being attacked on June 24 near Drinkwater Boulevard and Indian School Road. She later died from her injuries June 30.
Surveillance video in the area captured a person of interest near the scene, and Scottsdale PD said "numerous tips" led investigators to Curtis.
Police said Curtis was arrested for first-degree murder, sex assault, kidnapping and armed robbery. In his initial court appearance, bond was set at $500,000.
Prosecutors said Larwinski was barely recognizable after the attack. They said he "...bludgeoned her multiple times with a rock then dragged her into a breezeway where he can be seen on surveillance taking off his clothing and lying on top of the victim for a period of time, getting up, then putting some of his clothing back on and leaving with her backpack."
