2 persons of interest detained in Queen Creek vandalism spree

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate more than 100 incidents of vehicle damage in Queen Creek neighborhoods.

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. — The video above is from Wednesday night when Queen Creek residents were describing the damaged cars to 12 News.

A potential suspect vehicle has been found and two persons of interest have been detained as the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office investigates a vandalism spree in Queen Creek.

Deputies said around 120 vehicles have been damaged in multiple neighborhoods since late last week.

Surveillance video captured the sound of BB guns firing in a Queen Creek neighborhood early Wednesday morning. The sheriff’s office said that’s just one of the ways the vehicles were damaged.

“They are getting out of the vehicles and actually smashing car windows with unknown objects and kicking in car doors,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said.

But the suspects never actually stole anything out of the cars, deputies say.

“It’s probably multiple people in multiple vehicles,” MCSO said.

The persons of interest are juveniles and the vehicle of interest is a dark-colored sedan, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation into the criminal damage is ongoing. The sheriff’s office said it will release more details as they become available.
