103 dry Phoenix days with no end in sight...yet

The Phoenix dry streak continues, and the National Weather Service expects "very little chance of rain before the end of the month."

One might be the loneliest number, but 103 is the driest at the moment.

Friday marks 103 days since the last time Phoenix saw measurable rain, which, as of Thursday when it was only a mere 102 days, is the 21st driest streak on record, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

Even worse, NWS says Phoenix has only had 1 inch of rain since Aug. 24, the driest Aug. 24 to June 21 on record.

What about that rain last weekend?

Yes, it did rain on the first weekend of Monsoon 2018. Some Valley places saw a good amount of precipitation too.

But unfortunately, it wasn't at Sky Harbor where Phoenix's official rain total is measured. Only a trace was measured at Sky Harbor over last weekend.

PREVIOUSLY: Despite weekend rain, the dry streak in Phoenix continues

"Our current climate sites are based on point observations," NWS Phoenix tweeted in response to Valley residents pointing out that it did, in fact, rain.

NWS said there's "definitely a pitfall of a point observation," but a "decent amount" of the Valley did not receive measurable rain.

No end in sight

The dry streak will continue as far as the currently forecast can see.

NWS in Phoenix says despite the rainfall last weekend, extreme to exceptional drought in the region persists with, "very little chance of rain before the end of the month."
