Phoenix Boy Scouts honor fallen heroes with American flags prior to Memorial Day

The fallen were honored in Phoenix at the National Memorial Cemetery Saturday morning.

PHOENIX- Throughout Memorial Day weekend your social media feeds might be filled with comments of people thanking veterans for their service, and while Veteran’s Day honors all veterans who served, Memorial Day specifically honors those who died in action.

The fallen were honored in Phoenix at the National Memorial Cemetery.

When the time comes one would hope they have people like Holden and Keaton Brown in their corner.

“They’ve left their bodies and we are just looking after them.” Said Holden Brown.

“We’re just giving them the respect they deserve,” he added. “To be honest, I think this is one of the best things to do.”

Some of the volunteers were placing flags at the graves of our nation’s fallen at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona Saturday morning.

Volunteers placed flags on gravesites prior to Memorial Day.

“A song I heard when I was young talks about the average age of soldier in World War II was 22 and veteran was 19” said a troop leader.

Not many years difference, are these young men.

“These guys are going to finish their scouting career at 18 years old and the year after that they would be out at war fighting, and I say to myself, ‘is what I’ve done, did it do anything? Did it mean anything?’” said troop leader.

The flags more than a symbol are a thank you.

“So, for all the people that think it’s just a day off of school, I’d say it’s a good day to look back at what has happened in our country,” he said.

Thousands of flags were places on gravesites prior to Memorial Day.
