A crossing guard in the Marana Unified School District has been arrested for sexual exploitation of a minor.

Billy Cruz, 60, was arrested on Friday by Pima County Sheriff's deputies after a search warrant uncovered files containing images of a child being sexually exploited.

The department was tipped off by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children after a report that Cruz was uploading disturbing images to his Google account.

He is now charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Cruz has worked for the district since August 2012 at Thornydale Elementary School and Tortolita Middle School.

He has been placed on leave by the district pending the outcome of the investigation.

The district said in a statement that Cruz went through a background check before being hired and has had no disciplinary issues.
