TEMPE, Ariz. — Gov. Katie Hobbs has selected Tempe Police Chief Jeffrey Glover to serve as the next Arizona Department of Public Safety director.
Glover has worked for the Tempe Police Department since 1999 and was appointed as the agency's chief in 2020.
“Maintaining public safety and restoring trust in these critical institutions is a major priority for our administration,” Gov. Hobbs said in a statement.
DPS is responsible for patrolling Arizona's highways and operating a statewide forensic crime laboratory.
The governor announced Tuesday she's also picked Dr. Ryan Thornell to be the next director of the Arizona Department of Corrections. Thornell has previously served as deputy commissioner for the Maine Department of Corrections.
Glover's last day as Tempe's police chief is expected to be Feb. 13.
"It is no surprise that someone of such character and skill would be invited to serve at the highest levels of law enforcement,” Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said in a statement.
