NAVAJO COUNTY, Ariz. - A 17-year-old girl is dead following a drowning accident during a rope/ zip-line exercise On Saturday, according to the Navajo County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said Marisa Trujillo, 17, intentionally unclipped her carabineer and dropped to the river, 60 feet below.

NCSO said an ROTC unit from Chinle, Arizona was conducting a rope/ zip-line exercise which crosses Clear Creek, south of Highway 99 on Saturday May, 8.

Other students have done this in the past and this was an unfortunate accident, according to NCSO.

According to officials, Trujillo entered the water feet first.

A safety diver was in the water at the time as a safety precaution, but was not able to locate her.

Trujillo did not resurface.

Members of a dive team recovered her body about two hours later.
