PHOENIX — Arizona lawmakers have officially declared pornography as a public health crisis in the state.
The state Senate followed the House in approving HCR 2009 largely along party lines.
The resolution, which really has no real-world impact, denounces pornography as a "crisis leading to a broad spectrum of individual and public health impacts."
The resolution, however, could open the door to a future restriction on porn.
Republican sponsor Syvia Allen of Snowflake said pornography was an epidemic that contributed to violence against women and children. Democrat Victoria Steele of Tucson, however, responded that the resolution does nothing to protect women or children.
The resolution does not need Gov. Ducey's signature since it's not a law.
