Paradise Valley School District touts 2 Flinn Scholars

Lauren Paxton, a senior at Pinnacle High School, and Kyle Kline, a senior at Paradise Valley High School, are two of 22 students across Arizona who received the highly competitive merit-based awards.

PHOENIX - The Paradise Valley Unified School District is touting an unusual accomplishment this week. The district has produced two Flinn scholarship recipients in its 2018 graduating class.

Lauren Paxton, a senior at Pinnacle High School, and Kyle Kline, a senior at Paradise Valley High School, are two of just 22 students across Arizona who received the highly competitive merit-based awards.

Paxton will attend Arizona State University Barrett Honors College, where she plans to double major in economics and global health with a minor in spanish. Kline will attend the University of Arizona, where he plans to double major in environmental science and public health with a minor in theater.

The Flinn Scholars Program is supported by the Phoenix-based Flinn Foundation and Arizona's three universities. The award covers the cost of tuition and room and board at one of the state's three universities, and provides funding for at least two study-abroad experiences, among other benefits. The scholarship is valued at more than $120,000.

“We are really proud of the accomplishments of all of our students," said Superintendent James P. Lee. "Having two Flinn Scholars out of an elite group 22 students across the state is a tremendous honor for the students, their families, their schools, and PV Schools."
