CORNVILLE, Ariz. — 24-year-old Matthew Mattias was killed and four passengers in his car were hurt after a crash in Cornville Saturday night, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office says they were called about the accident around 7 p.m. on Saturday, and that it happened on the 11400 block of Willow Point Road. That is east of Highway 89A and south of Page Springs Road on a dirt road.

Firefighters were the first to get to the scene and found a red Nissan sedan on its side. Mattias was pronounced dead at the scene. Four passengers, a 14-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl, an 18-year-old man, and a 38-year-old man all were hurt but are expected to be okay.

Police say that the passengers told them that they were coming back from a nearby river, when Mattias, who had been drinking, intentionally swerved the car for "fun."

He reportedly lost control of the car and it rolled on its side. The passengers said Mattias was not wearing a seat belt, and police said it looked like many of the passengers were also not wearing seat belts.
