Leadfoot lawmaker caught speeding several more times

During his 18 months as a state lawmaker, Paul Mosley was stopped by police at least five more times for blowing past the speed limit.

By now, America knows all about Arizona's leadfoot lawmaker.

Video from a police body camera showed Republican State Rep. Paul Mosley bragging that his car could fly at 140 miles per hour, after a cop had pulled him over for doing 97 mph.

That video went viral.

We're now learning that during his 18 months as a state lawmaker, Mosley was stopped by police at least five more times for blowing past the speed limit.

A state Department of Public Safety spokesman confirmed these stops to 12 News:

The first DPS speeding stop was in February 2017, followed by two more in April 2017.

This year, DPS troopers pulled Mosley over twice in the same day, on April 5.

He was clocked driving 81 mph in a 65-mph zone on Interstate 10 in Avondale. Two hours later, Mosley was stopped for driving 88 mph in 55-mph zone on State Route 95, apparently on the way to his home in Lake Havasu City.

The stop recorded on video occurred in March 2018. A La Paz County sheriff's deputy flagged down Mosley for driving 97 mph in 55-mph zone near Parker.

Mosley told the deputy he was speeding because he was "trying to surprise my wife."

All the stops occurred while the state Legislature was in session. That matters, to Mosley at least.

During his stop last March, Mosley claimed he was shielded from a speeding ticket by legislative immunity: He couldn't be ticketed during the House session.

Republican House Speaker J.D. Mesnard has cast doubt on that notion.

It's unclear whether Mosley was ticketed or played the legislative immunity card during the five DPS stops.

After the first speeding stop, Mosley apologized on Facebook.

He didn't respond Monday to requests for comment on the five other stops.

Over the weekend, the Mohave County Republican Party censured Mosley for his behavior.
