Here's where you can register this week to be an organ donor in Arizona

From 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, the Donor Network of Arizona will be signing up organ donors in Arizona at 12 News' downtown Phoenix studio.

The Donor Network of Arizona (DNA) will be holding a registration drive this week at Studio 12A in downtown Phoenix.

From 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, the organization will be signing up organ donors in Arizona.

The drive coincides with the story of Ruben Aispuro which will air in a special two-night "IMPACT: Waiting for a Heart" starting Tuesday night only on 12 News at 10.

Ruben is on the transplant list and waiting for a heart.

The need for organ donations is high. Ruben is among thousands who are waiting for life-saving organ transplants in Arizona.

Dr. Eric Steidley, a cardiologist at Mayo Clinic, says people "do die waiting all the time."

How can I register to be an organ donor in Arizona?

Arizonans register to be organ donors when applying for or renewing their driver's license.

It's as simple as checking the appropriate box on the application. It can be done online when ordering a new license, according to ADOT.

According to DNA, there are no health or age requirements and the organization "assumes all expenses related to organ and tissue donation."
