A girl was found dead Monday after her family reported her missing from the Horseshoe Bend Overlook.

Coconino County Sheriff's Office says the 14-year-old girl was found 700 feet below the overlook by CCSO Search and Rescue and Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue out of Flagstaff.

It appears the girl fell by accident, but the incident is under investigation, according to CCSO.

The girl and her family were visiting from the San Jose, Calif., area. The girl was last seen at 2 p.m. and her family reported her missing at 4 p.m.

The girl's body was recovered Tuesday.

In May, witnesses saw a 33-year-old man accidentally fall to his death from the same area.

Crews are working to install a rim viewing area with safety railing at Horseshoe Bend. Construction began in November 2017, after park officials worried this exact tragedy would happen as more and more people visited.
