Coconino County declares state of emergency for Schultz area flooding

The county said more flooding is expected in the area with the ground being "saturated" and even more storm chances in the forecast for the next several days.

A state of emergency has been declared for the area near the Shultz Fire burn scar in northern Arizona due to major flooding.

The county said floodwater from Wednesday's "extraordinary monsoon event" impacted numerous private properties and damaged county roads.

"Rain fall totals in the affected area were between 5.35 inches to 5.94 inches in under two hours, during the 1000-year rain event," the county said in a release.
