Bar owner tasers customers who try to walk out on tab

A man and a woman were tased after they tried to leave a bar without paying their $126 bill.

TUCSON -- Frank Silverman owns Tucson's Midtown Tavern on First St. and Prince.

Last Thursday night, six people had dinner and drinks inside the bar. Four of the six walked out. The two final patrons, a man and a woman, got up from their table and tried to leave without paying the tab.

"A bill for $126 and they were trying to get out the door," Silverman said.

A server locked the door to prevent the couple from leaving as Silverman called police.

The customers wanted to start a fight and punched Silverman in the chest. Moments later, the bar owner pulled out his taser and tased both the man and woman, who went to the ground.

Shortly after, the police arrived.

"They came in and arrested both of them for disorderly conduct and assault and they went to jail," Silverman said.

Police identified the suspects as Armando Garcia and Erika Ojeda-Cocoa.

Garcia and Ojeda-Cocoa face multiple counts of assault and disorderly conduct.
