Arizona native competing in season premiere of NBC's 'Songland'

Thatcher native Ryan Innes is pitching his original song on NBC's hit show, "Songland." He describes the experience as nerve-wracking and amazing.

ARIZONA, USA — Arizona has a vested interest in tonight's premiere of NBC's second season of Songland.

Thatcher native Ryan Innes will be pitching his original song to the three producer mentors of the show. Joining them for tonight's episode is guest-celebrity artist and five-time Grammy award-winning country-pop trio Lady Antebellum.

Innes, who describes himself as more of a singer than a songwriter, described the entire experience as nerve-wracking and amazing.

"I was really excited about it," he said.

Innes had almost forgotten about the song he decided to pitch on tonight's episode because it was written five years ago. He described writing the song with The Voice contestant Dustin Christensen in a cabin in the mountains.

"We thought that this song wasn't going to go anywhere or do anything," Innes said. "So, the fact that this song, that was just kind of for us, is being pitched to this major, major artist...I couldn't have scripted that any better."

The premiere of Songland's second season is tonight at 9 p.m.! Be sure to tune in and see if our Arizona native's song is chosen to be recorded and released by Lady Antebellum.

After Songland premiers, be sure to tune into 12 News @ 10 to hear more from Innes about his experience and what he's been working on lately.

Songland - Premieres Monday, April 13 at 10/9c. Superstars turn songwriters' dreams into their next big hits with the help of top producers.
