2 dead in crash of home-built plane in Camp Verde

The plane was tracked from a cellphone belonging to one of the people aboard the plane.

CAMP VERDE, Ariz. - The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office confirmed Sunday that two men died in a home-built plane crash in Camp Verde and their bodies have been recovered.

The pilot, Glenn Tenniswood, 68, and passenger, Ron Walker, 78, were both from Camp Verde.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was an experimental "Air Camper" model. YCSO said the National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) has been on scene investigating all morning.

YCSO officials say the wreckage was found in rugged terrain Saturday night southeast of Montezuma Castle in Camp Verde.

Sheriff's officials say they received a call about an overdue small plane from a family member of the aircraft's owner around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The plane was tracked from a cellphone belonging to one of the people aboard the plane.

Camp Verde is 90 miles (144 kilometers) north of Phoenix.
