Arizona girls boarding school reports coronavirus cluster

40 girls living together in the same dorm tested positive for the virus.

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — Yavapai county health officials have discovered a cluster of COVID-19 cases at all-girls high school near Prescott Valley.

The boarding school caters to at-risk adolescent girls. Last week, two students went to the emergency room to be treated and were later released, Leslie Horton, Director of Yavapai County Community Health Services, said.

The county then tested 60 girls living in the same dorm and found 40 to be positive. Two staff members also tested positive.

The school tells 12 News the affected students are being isolated.

“Our program is following a stringent screening process for all individuals on our campus to confirm no one else is showing potential symptoms of this virus,” Elise Pelletier, a school spokesperson, said in a written statement to 12 News. "We also continue to keep our referral partners informed and are committed to taking whatever steps necessary to prevent further spread of this virus at Mingus.”
