FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Flagstaff High School graphic design program has a chance at $75,000 thanks to custom shoe designs.

Flagstaff High is a finalist in the Vans Custom Culture shoe design contest, which aims to inspire high school students to bring creativity and art to Vans shoes. The school is in the top five along with high schools from Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Students put 65 hours into two shoe designs titled, "Local Flavor" and "Off the Wall."

The students who designed the shoes, Alyssa Williams and Nicole Dougherty, said they would like to use the funds to make the school come alive with murals and designs in hopes to make the high school feel more welcoming. They would also like to update the screen printing lab at the school and the graphic design computer lab with updated technology.

Everyone in the top five receives $10,000 from Vans. The winner of the $75,000 grand prize will be announced between May 13 and May 17, according to Vans.
