Fiancee: I want to find out who ruined my life

NEW ORLEANS - Thomas Rolfes and Elizabeth Fried arrived in New Orleans Friday night on separate planes. The two were in town - their dream city - to find a venue for upcoming nuptials.

The two had met while at Tulane University and both were graduates of the Uptown school. Thomas arrived on an earlier flight and went out with some friends. He went to Ms. Mae's Uptown and after that, his travels were uncertain. The only thing that is certain is that Rolfes purchased some water at the Delta Fuel gas station and convenience store on S. Claiborne Avenue around 3:30 a.m., and a short time later, his body was found a few blocks away. He was the victim of a gunshot wound.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said police believe the motive is robbery, and he said some injuries on Rolfes' hands may indicate there may have been a struggle.

"We were engaged last month. We booked a flight to look at venues," Fried said. "This was our dream city."

"Saturday morning, my life was ruined," she said through tears. "He was such an amazing man. I want to find out who did this, who ruined my life."

Video shows Rolfes going into the convenience store, purchasing water and the leaving.

Fried said Rolfes, 25, did not have a car. She said her life has been turned upside down as the city where she was looking for a dream wedding has now become part of her worst nightmare.

"It used to be, to me, the greatest city in the world," Fried said. "We met at Tulane and spent four amazing years in this city together. He was so kind and loving. I'm going to miss him so, so much."

"I don't think I'll ever come back," she said. "This was my dream city. Now, it's my worst nightmare."

Fried is urging anyone who knows anything to please call police. Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
