PHOENIX — This year's so-called "nonsoon" has been driving everyone a little crazy.

(OK, maybe more than a little.)

There has only been .27 of an inch of rain measured in Phoenix between June 15 and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

That means this year has been the sixth-driest monsoon in Phoenix since 1896.

So in order to open up the skies and encourage Mother Nature to rain down on us, nearly 2,000 people have pledged to participate in a massive car wash starting Friday.

A Facebook event titled "Everyone In Phoenix Wash Your Cars So The Monsoon Will Arrive" is encouraging people to do just that: Wash their cars so the monsoon will arrive.

And a lot of people are already on board: 1,800 people said they were going, while another 4,000 said they were interested.

The event hosted by Emmay Carmichael is scheduled to start around noon Friday and continue until 11 p.m. Saturday.

If you think it seems ridiculous (or wasteful) to wash your car for nearly 36 hours, Carmichael offered up some other suggestions.

"You may also consider planning a giant outdoor birthday for a three or four year old complete with bouncy house, grilling, and live entertainment," the event description read.

"Events like this almost always guarantee rain will occur even if the forecast for the entire week guarantees sunshine and nice temps."
