Everywhere A to Z: Exploring downtown Gilbert

Main street in Gilbert still has the charm of yesteryear, but new businesses are popping up left and right.

Gilbert, Ariz. — Incorporated in 1920, Gilbert, Arizona stays true to its humble beginnings despite the rapid growth.

“As we grow as a community, we haven’t forgotten that we were built on one small street. At one time we were the hay capital of the world and we are now a vibrant community of 250,000 people.," said Jenn Daniels, Mayor of Gilbert, Arizona.

Main street still has the charm of yesteryear, but new businesses are popping up left and right.

“I love the energy that we have in downtown Gilbert. We have neighborhoods and people and business all coming together and creating this vibrant community," said Mayor Daniels.

Heritage District added 26 new restaurants in the past five years with a vivacious nightlife scene.

One place that was recently added, O.H.S.O Brewery.

“O.H.S.O., we hope it means oh so fun, oh so great, oh so happy, but what it really means is outrageous, home brewers social outpost," said Jon Lane, Owner of O.H.S.O Brewery.

Sure you’ll find top notch gastropub food here, however, with a full staff of expert brewers, you can’t ignore the tank to glass beer.

“We brew mostly lagers, big stouts and IPA’s here," said Lane.

It’s a nonstop operation.

“It’s kind of like your children, you are always worried about them, so the beer in our case is our children," said Josh Goodstein, Production Manager at O.H.S.O Brewery Gilbert.

And the leftover grains are turned into tasty dog treats and delivered to local farmers.

“We invite everyone from the community in," said Lane.

A one-stop-shop to try all things made in Gilbert is the all new, Made With Love Market.

“We will be featuring lots of handmade vendors from local areas around Gilbert and surrounding communities. We’ll have food, music and free family activities," said Cody Waltz, Co-Owner of Made With Love Market.

More than 50 vendors will line the Heritage District greenbelt.

“We offer a variety of handmade signs, we hand make everything, we hand make our metal work, our copper and we offer a lot of Arizona signs and Gilbert signs," said Angela Smith, Owner of Andyvine Market.

“We are the first and only cold brew coffee shop in the state of Arizona. We keep our cold brew as a concentrate, so you get that kick in your pants every time you take a sip," said Emily Barton, Owner of Sweetz Cold Brew Coffee Company.

“Our first market is September 15th and we will run through the end of April, basically every other Saturday," said Maribeth Sublette, Co-Owner of Made With Love Market.

You can sum up downtown Gilbert like this.

“Art fairs, farmers markets, Hale Theatre, you find everything you need right here in Gilbert," said Mayor Daniels.
