Mesa native Tyke James dedicates emotional performance to parents on 'The Voice'

He sang "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams.

Mesa-native Tyke James is one of the Top 13 on “The Voice,” but the competition is far from over. In Monday’s performance, he aimed straight for the heartstrings.

Team 12’s Krystle Henderson caught up with James before he headed into rehearsal.

He said instead of hitting crazy notes, he was focusing on conveying emotion.

Each artist dedicated a song to someone special in their life this round, and for James, that was his parents. His mom and dad were in the audience cheering him on as he sang "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You."

"I'm so proud of you. This version of the song has never been done before," team coach Adam Levine said.

James was saved from elimination last week by Adam Levine. However, at this point in the competition, it’s up to the viewers to keep him in the running.

At least one more artist will be eliminated on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

"The Voice" airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. MST on NBC.
