Garfield's biggest fan celebrates the cat's 40th birthday in the Valley

What do you do when you really, really, really like the cartoon cat? You do like Penny Stewart and turn your living space into the Garfield house and try to make it into the Guinness World Records, of course!

PHOENIX - He's orange, fat and over the hill!

Garfield turns 40 Tuesday, and we met a Valley woman who may be the biggest Garfield fan in the world.

So what do you do when you really, really, really like the cartoon cat? You do like Penny Stewart and turn your living space into the Garfield house and try to make it into the Guinness World Records, of course!

"One day I just fell in love with him," Penny said. "Maybe it's the lasagna connection. I don't know."

Although she never watched the show, Penny attached to Garfield in 1987.

"I didn't think this was going to happen but it just snowballed from there," Penny said.

Since then she's collected anything and everything Garfield. She has watches, outfits, office, bedroom and bathroom, even Christmas decor.

One of the biggest highlights of Penny's fandom with Garfield was meeting Garfield creator Jim Davis.

"He's the nicest guy, just the nicest guy," Penny said. "I'll never forget that."

There are photos and cartoon drawings from Davis in Penny's house. It's a collection she wants to break records.

"I need to count them to get into the Guinness Book of World Records," she said. "I put in a request and they haven't answered me back yet."

So until then, Garfield's self-proclaimed number one fan says the more Garfield, the better!
