Peoria Unified extends school hours to make up days lost during teacher walkout

Other districts have also announced end-of-the-year plans. While some are adding days, others are not extending the school year.

PHOENIX - After six days, Arizona's teacher walkout ended.

Valley districts have welcomed teachers and students back into the classroom last Friday.

But after a week of wondering if schools would be open or closed, the question now is: Will the school year be extended?

On Monday, Peoria Unified School District approved a revised school calendar to make up for the days lost. The district will be adding an extra hour added to the end of each school day starting May 9 through the last day of school on May 24. High schools will dismiss at 3:20 p.m. while elementary schools that dismiss at 3 or 3:40 p.m. will dismiss at 4 and 4:40 p.m. respectively.

Other districts have also announced end-of-the-year plans, while some are adding days, others are not extending the school year.
