PHOENIX - Parents and teachers in Phoenix will be delivering breakfast and lunch to students during the walkout Thursday and Friday.
One of the parents, Alejandro Chavez, said a teacher from Phoenix Union High School district reached out to him. He said the teacher, whom he did not name, identified students who will need help in receiving lunch.
The meals will consist of breakfast burritos with potatoes and eggs. The lunches will be sandwiches with chips, fruit and a cookie, Chavez said.
Chavez posted on his Facebook page Wednesday asking for students or parents to reach out if they need lunch delivered .
We just got the first request to help some students. There are some food stations, but some kids are not able to get there. These students on the Westside will need our support... and we are here. Amazing neighbor is making the lunches and we are making the breakfast.. plus we will deliver! Right now only 13 students.
At the moment, Chavez said they are focusing on delivering to west Phoenix, but are open to deliver to more kids in the community.
He says they are delivering 13 meals to kids with special needs.
Chavez, his wife and other community members will be delivering meals starting at 8:00 a.m. Thursday and Friday.
"[The] West side does not have a lot of food stations, and some students depend on school transportation,"said Chavez in a statement. "They cannot get to food stations."
