PHOENIX — Two unrelated shootings occurred within a mile of each other in Phoenix early Sunday, the Phoenix Police Department said.
One of the shootings, which occurred at an apartment complex near 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road, involved a woman who was shot and taken to a local hospital.
Two suspects were detained in connection to that shooting, police said. No other information was immediately released.
The second shooting occurred near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road.
Marlon Cruz Isaguirre, 33, was found with gunshot wounds around 2:30 a.m. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Phoenix Police Department said Isaguirre was involved in an verbal altercation at a bar with two Hispanic men and a woman who entered the bar.
Isaguirre reportedly did not like how the men looked at him and words were exchanged, police said.
The men, who are considered suspects in the shooting, and the woman left the bar and Isaguirre and his friends left shortly after. Isaguirre was allegedly confronted by the men, who were in two separate cars.
Additional words were exchanged and the two suspects started driving away while firing at Isaguirre, police said.
Isaguirre attempted to run away, but was struck multiple times by gunshots and fell in the parking lot. He was taken to a local trauma center, where he died of his injuries.
The suspects have not been identified and remain outstanding.
