MESA, Ariz — Mesa Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that hospitalized one suspect. 

No officers were injured in the shooting, which happened near Broadway and Gilbert roads. 

Police say they received a call from a woman around 3 a.m. who said her brother was going to shoot her father. 

Officers arrived minutes later and saw the suspect inside the home with his younger brother and father. The younger brother came out of the home about 15 minutes after police arrived. 

Officers made contact with the suspect over the phone and the suspect said he was holding his father hostage at gunpoint. 

About 20 minutes later, at about 3:34 a.m., the hostage came out of the home and confirmed the suspect had a shotgun and was loading it. 

At 3:41 a.m., the suspect was seen in the window producing a shotgun and police say that's when the officer-involved shooting occurred. 

Officers made life-saving measures and Mesa Fire and Medical did as well. The suspect was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. 

The investigation is ongoing.
