Update: Victim, suspect identified in deadly Gilbert shooting

Police believe it is a case of domestic violence.

GILBERT, Ariz. — UPDATE (6 p.m., April 3) 

Gilbert Police have identified the victim of Friday morning's shooting as 42-year-old Kristie Bobbit. 

Officers arrested 42-year-old Phillip Bobbitt, and he has been charged with first-degree murder. Police say the victim and the suspect are believed to be married but are separated.

One woman is dead, and a man is behind bars after an early morning shooting in Gilbert.

Police say they were called out to a shooting at an apartment complex near Elliot and Recker roads just after 7 a.m. Friday morning.

The Gilbert Police Department says the woman was found in a car in the apartment parking lot. She has not been publicly identified yet. Investigators had a description of a black Chevy truck to go on. It took them several hours, but they were able to identify and arrest a suspect.

There are no other victims, and police say there is no danger to anyone else.
