Phoenix man beat son with broom so hard it broke, according to court documents

He then continued to hit the boy with the sharp edge of the broken broom, causing a four-inch cut on the boy's cheek, court documents reveal.

PHOENIX — Police say a Phoenix man is being charged with child abuse after he beat his 13-year-old son with a broom with so much force it broke.

According to court documents, 41-year-old Jose Luis Acevedo Jimenez hit his son with a closed fist, then took a broom and beat him until it broke. He then continued to hit the boy with the sharp edge of the broken broom, causing a four-inch cut on the boy's cheek. 

Court documents read that the victim thinks he may have lost consciousness. The boy told police he heard ringing in his ear and fell to the ground. 

Three other children were in the home at the time of the beating, according to court documents.

The boy's mother confronted the father and he said he struck the boy with the broom and that left a mark. The man then threw the broom away, court documents reveal. 

The police were called to the house found the broom. According to court documents, the man admitted to striking his son several times and causing the cut on his cheek.
