TEMPE, Ariz. - A 20-year-old woman is dead after investigators with the Tempe Police Department say she was shot and killed by a man she most likely met on a dating website or app.
The woman, I'Jenea Ennals, was found by her roommate inside the Ramada Inn near Scottsdale Road and McKellips Street. The woman suffered a fatal gunshot wound to her chest and 20-year-old Andrew James Herr has been charged in the case with first-degree murder.
According to police paperwork, the woman's roommate says she was using dating websites and apps to meet met and presumably have sex. She shared with police that her roommate expressed some concern over one particular man who her roommate claimed would scare her into having sex.
Text messages between the victim and Kerr were exchanged on Monday morning and confirm the man was in the parking lot of the Ramada Inn and waited until Ennal's roommate left before going into the room.
A search warrant at Kerr's Mesa home found a note containing two names of "people to kill" and other writings that described his lack of friends and trouble with women. Detectives also found a pistol inside the Kerr's car that matched up to a bullet found at the crime scene.
Kerr denied meeting Ennal's or communicating with the woman when questioned by police and asked for an attorney.
