Man shot, killed after allegedly breaking into Phoenix home

Police said Luis Martinez Romero was shot by an unnamed person after allegedly forcing his way into the man's home.

PHOENIX — A 22-year-old man is dead after he was shot after allegedly breaking into a home in Phoenix on Wednesday, police said. 

The Phoenix Police Department said Thursday that Luis Martinez Romero was shot by an unnamed person after allegedly forcing his way into the man's home.

Romero was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The man from the apartment remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said the two men knew each other.

The shooting took place near 38th Street and Cambridge Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review.
