PAGE, Ariz. — Page police arrested a man behind a threatening post on Facebook shortly after it was brought to their attention on Monday.

Police said 34-year-old Daniel Franzen wrote a post in which he threatened violence toward Navajo Nation community members because he believed all Navajo citizens are infected with COVID-19.

Franzen was booked into the Coconino County Jail for attempting to incite an act of terrorism, a class 3 felony.

Police said in their own Facebook post on Tuesday that they are "aggressively" investigating unlawful hate speech that singles out protected classes.

They also said they wanted to remind everyone that police would be investigating retaliatory threats toward Franzen as well.
