SURPRISE, Ariz. — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after accidentally shooting a co-worker at a fast food restaurant in Surprise, according to the Surprise Police Department

The shooting happened at a Wendy's restaurant near the intersection on Bell Road and Crossroads Boulevard around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday.

Police said the 16-year-old was in the break room of the restaurant showing a gun he had brought to work to another employee. The gun accidentally went off and a bullet hit a 17-year-old in the chest.

The 16-year-old then tried to clean up evidence of the shooting, according to police.

The 16-year-old was taken into custody and booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault, endangerment, unlawful discharge of firearms, disorderly conduct, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm as a minor.
