Grandson fire bombed grandparents' home after he was kicked out, police say

Wilson and a grandparent got in an argument a few days before the fire.

PHOENIX - Police have arrested a grandson of homeowners who were victims of arson in 2016 when their house was fire bombed.

Fred Wilson West was kicked out of his grandparents home two days before it was fire bombed with two Molotov cocktails, according to Phoenix Police.

Molotov cocktails are glass bottles filled with gasoline and usually some type of cloth sticking out of them to help ignite a fire.

Two glass bottles were recovered at the arson site, the home of West's grandparents.

West and a grandparent got in an argument a few days before the fire and West pulled a gun on the grandparent, according to the paperwork obtained by 12 News in a public records request.

The Phoenix Police crime lab recovered finger prints and DNA off those glass bottles. They ran that information through a nationwide database and got a match to West in Oct. 2017, according to court paperwork.

Police say West initially denied ever returning to the home after he had moved out in 2013, but when police confronted him with the fingerprint and DNA evidence, West admitted to returning to the home. West was arrested on Sept. 18.

Court paperwork lists arson and prohibited possession of a weapon as possible charges that West could face.
