Family of Mesa mother found dead finding hope in arrests made

Mesa Police have arrested four women for kidnapping Melissa Valenzuela in March.

MESA, Ariz — A family is finding hope amidst tragedy as four women were arrested for kidnapping a Mesa mother found dead last month.

Melissa Valenzuela was just 34-years-old and leaves behind three sons.

“It’s one step closer,” Jessica Valenzuela, Melissa’s sister said. “The arrests that have been made and the progress that has been made in the case has brought our family a lot of hope.”

Melissa disappeared March 17 and her body was found about a week later.

Mesa Police arrested Christina Gomez, Mercedes Gomez, Nadine Chavez and Melissa Servin for kidnapping the mother of three.

“We are still mourning and grieving the loss of Melissa as she will forever be in our hearts. We are also grateful for the time, commitment, and dedication of the Mesa Police Department. Without their hard work and around the clock efforts we would not have the arrests that were recently made,” Melissa’s parents said in a statement to 12 News.

Mesa Police are still investigating Melissa’s death as a homicide. Records obtained by 12 News show investigators are still looking into how the four women arrested for kidnapping may be involved in Melissa’s death.

“Justice for my family will be when we see every single person involved in what happened to my sister held accountable,” Jessica Valenzuela said.

While justice doesn’t replace who they’ve lost, answers are providing some comfort for the family and are asking those who have information to come forward to Mesa Police.

“Please know that there is grace and salvation for you in doing the right thing and telling the truth,” Jessica Valenzuela said.
