Case dismissed against man accused in girlfriend's murder

The county attorney’s office said it will review the evidence and decide whether to re-file charges.

PHOENIX — The case against a man suspected in his girlfriend’s murder nearly two years ago has been dismissed, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

The county attorney’s office said it will review the evidence and decide whether to re-file charges in the coming days or weeks.

Jon Christopher Clark was 19-year-old Kiera Bergman's boyfriend and the last person who reported seeing her alive, investigators said.

Bergman went missing from Glendale in August 2018. Her body was found in Buckeye near State Route 85 just over a month later.

Phoenix police recommended a first-degree murder charge against Clark after they identified several inconsistencies in his timeline after Bergman disappeared.

Investigators also said they uncovered a history of abuse against Bergman.

Clark messaged 12 News shortly before his arrest on identity theft and forgery charges in 2018 to deny his involvement in her disappearance
