12 News, state broadcasters team up and hold coronavirus town hall with state leaders

PHOENIX — Arizona’s TV stations, radio stations, and newspapers came together to make sure every citizen has the facts about the state's response to COVID-19. 

12 News, along with the Arizona Broadcasters Association and other stations around the state, teamed up to hold the Arizona COVID-19 Town Hall Thursday with Gov. Ducey and other state leaders to answer questions.

The broadcast was commercial-free and citizens watched the town hall on local TV stations, listened to it on radio stations, or streamed it online on local newspaper websites.

“Basic information about COVID-19 is everywhere,” Arizona Broadcasters Association President and CEO Chris Kline said. “But our goal is to cut through the clutter, eliminate any misinformation and let everyone in Arizona be part of an important conversation with our state leaders."

The panel of leaders answered questions including what health precautions people need to be taking, the economic plans to support Arizona citizens, and what data is being used to make the state’s decisions.

Gov. Ducey was joined by Arizona Department of Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ, Director of the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs Maj. Gen. Michael McGuire at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications in downtown Phoenix.
