It's not the winning $768 million jackpot, but a lucky person in Arizona is waking up with quite the consolation prize.
According to the Powerball website, seven states, including Arizona, sold a ticket matching all five white balls. That means someone in Arizona won a $1 million prize.
Arizona State Lottery officials say the winning ticket was sold at the Circle K on 3550 E. Main St in Mesa.
Management at the store declined to comment, but lottery officials say all stores make a cut of sales. They make at least 6.5% off the tickets they sell and an extra bonus for winnings $50,000 and more.
“That money goes to everything from kids in the court system to preserving our cultural heritage,” said John Gilliland with the Arizona Lottery.
The winning $768 million Powerball ticket was sold in Wisconsin. It matched all six numbers in the drawing to win the third-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.
