'Save Our Home Arizona' program extended, granting homeowners money

The Save Our Home Arizona program has given out more than $200 million in assistance to Arizona homeowners since 2010.

Get up to $100,000 to save your home. It almost sounds like a scam-- but it's not.

Save Our Home Arizona is a federally funded program that was started by the US Treasury Department back in 2010.

The funds were allocated throughout the states. Since then, the program has given out more than $200 million in assistance to Arizona homeowners.

However, the program will only be around as long as funds last, which means 2018 may be your last chance to take advantage of it.

"It was terrible. The foreclosure people were coming after me. I'd have realtors coming to my door and letters, 'We'll buy your house for cash' that kind of thing," recalls Leslie Fountain, who used the program.

Fountain recently lost her husband to Alzheimer's and had fallen behind on mortgage payments because of costly medical bills.

She applied and qualified for the Save Our Home program. The program gave her more than $70,000 in assistance.

It eliminated a $60,000 second mortgage and paid off her homeowners' association debts, as well as bringing down her mortgage to $375 per month.

"It was life changing in that it allowed me to be comfortable here and keep my house," Fountain said.

You need three things to qualify for Save our Home:

  1. Your home must be in the state of Arizona
  2. The home must be owner occupied
  3. You must be having difficulty making your mortgage payments

If this is you, fill out this form on the Arizona Department of Housing website.
