A Phoenix mother met her daughter’s heart recipient for the first time at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix on Monday.

Traci Helms' 17-year-old daughter, Sunni, passed away after a car accident in 2014.

At the same time, Mark Wilson of Phoenix had been struggling with congestive heart failure and needed a transplant.

After being gifted with Sunni’s heart, Mark decided to reach out to contact his donor’s family to show his gratitude.

“I’m so thankful to Sunni. I want to thank Traci for this amazing gift and let her know that I plan to take care of it and do good things,” said Mark.

To Mark’s surprise, he received a reply from Traci and the two met in person.

For Traci, meeting Mark means being close to Sunni again.

“I just want to hug him and listen to my daughter’s heartbeat one more time,” she said.
