'Never a dull moment': Checking in with a Valley family of quadruplets after first year

Three brothers and one sister, the quads, now rule the Szafranski squad. "It's always chaos," said mom, Kylie. "Controlled chaos. But it's a lot of fun."

PHOENIX - Four times the diapers, four times the crying, four times the food and four times the love. It's tough enough raising one baby, so imagine four at the same time.

Saying the Szafranski quadruplets keep their parents busy is an understatement, says mom, Kylie.

"It is never a dull moment for sure," Kylie Szafranski said.

Three brothers and one sister, the quads, now rule the Szafranski squad.

"It's always chaos," Szafranski said. "Controlled chaos. But it's a lot of fun."

Szafranski says the quads are just like raising any other baby, times four.

"The best thing I was ever told is it never gets easier, it gets different and that's definitely true," she said.

Especially when adding up the monthly bills. Szafranski estimates they spend about $800 to $900 a month between groceries and diapers.

"I usually do about two $400 trips to Costco every month and that's just in food because I buy their diapers on Amazon," she said.

Born at 29 weeks and three days, Szafranski says all of the babies are healthy overall. But they still have to visit the doctor quite a bit.

"Our daughter does have a congenital heart defect," she said. "One of our sons has chronic lung disease so he's oxygen dependent."

And another one of her sons was just diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

"We're working real hard to try to do the best for him," Szafranski said.

And like any other mom, Szafranski says even with the chaos, she wouldn't have it any other way.

Szafranski says she's thankful she's able to stay home with the babies and their older sister, and even works from home on the side to help pay the bills.
