BROOKLYN, Ohio — Swensons is expanding once again.
The Akron-based burger chain announced they will be opening their next location in Brooklyn near the Best Buy on Brookpark Road.
“We’ve been doing this the same way for nearly 90 years," Swensons' Kevin Howley told 3News. "It’s a special recipe from when Pop Swensons was selling hamburgers out of his station wagon in Akron. Same recipes. Same burgers. Same bun.”
Best known for its Galley Boy -- a double cheeseburger smothered in two homemade sauces and topped with a green olive -- Swensons is frequently ranked among the best burger spots in America. It's even a favorite of Akron native LeBron James.
"I get a double cheeseburger, and onion rings," James previously revealed during an interview at the I PROMISE School in Akron. "And then I get a banana milkshake with real ice cream. I have a nice little feast."
To celebrate the groundbreaking at their new location in Brooklyn, Swensons is hosting a "construction celebration" on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 5-7 p.m. The first 100 customers to visit will receive a free Galley Boy burger.
But did you know Swensons also has a secret menu? We have details of the special food options HERE.
"The Swensons’ journey began in 1934 when Wesley T. 'Pop' Swenson started selling fresh-ground burgers to his Akron neighbors out of the back of his family station wagon," the company said. "The operation soon moved to a single hamburger stand, where it embraced the classic American drive-in model. 87 years later, the Swensons experience remains largely unchanged."
Most recently, Swensons opened a new restaurant on Euclid Avenue in Willoughby back in July.
