Grand Canyon tops list of 'best cheap summer vacations'

According to U.S. News & World Report's annual "best vacation" rankings, the Grand Canyon is number one when it comes to affordable vacations.

Arizonans looking for a cheap summer getaway can apparently stay in-state for the best budget-friendly destination.

According to U.S. News & World Report's annual "best vacation" rankings, the Grand Canyon is no. 1 when it comes to affordable vacations. Arizona's most famous landmark topped a list of 15 vacation destinations.

"It doesn't get more affordable than camping, and this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a unique place to rough it," U.S. News writes. "You'll have to contend with crowds along the South Rim, but the photo possibilities will be well worth the cramped quarters."

The rankings, according to U.S. News, were based on an "analysis of expert and user opinions."

The park currently charges $15 per person entering on foot or $30 per vehicle, which includes all occupants.

Tucson also made the list at No. 6.
