Mike Gonzalez anchors First @ 4 with Tram Mai, and is a reporter and multi-skilled journalist for 12 News. He joined 12 News in July 2018 from KAPP/KVEW-TV ABC 42/25 in Yakima, Washington, where he was the primary anchor and news director.
Gonzalez previously served as morning anchor, investigative reporter, and managing editor at WNCN-TV, the CBS-affiliate in Raleigh. While there, Gonzalez won an RTDNA Award for an investigative piece on dangerous football helmets being worn by high school players across North Carolina. He also served in managing editor role at the station.
Prior to his time in Raleigh, Mike worked at KOMU, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, Missouri, as an anchor and reporter while attending graduate school at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
Previously, Mike worked as a reporter at KREM2, the CBS affiliate in Spokane, Washington, and as the primary evening anchor. Earlier in his career, Mike served as morning anchor at KXLY-TV, the ABC affiliate in Spokane, Washington. Other credits include weekend morning news and sports anchor/reporter at WOWT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska, and weekend anchor/reporter at KOLN-TV, the CBS station in Lincoln, Nebraska. While in Omaha, Mike won an AP Award for Best Breaking News Coverage.
Mike is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. He had a brief stint in the minor leagues following undergrad, before beginning his career in the NC State Athletic Department as the assistant video coordinator for NCSU Football and a production assistant for the Wolfpack football and basketball shows.
Mike is married and has three children. He’s happy to call Arizona home!
