Verify: Are more people signing up for Obamacare?

Midnight Friday is the deadline to sign up for coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

PHOENIX - The deadline to sign up for the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, is Friday at midnight.

The deadline comes as Republicans have tried for a year to repeal or replace Obamacare under President Trump's leadership.

All of their attempts so far have failed, but the latest Republican tax plan does include a provision to strip away the individual mandate, the requirement that people buy health insurance or face tax penalties.

The Trump administration has also stripped away almost all funding for advertising the Affordable Care Act.

So we wanted to verify if that was impacting the number of people signing up for health insurance.

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which tracks ACA enrollment data, the number of people enrolled in the ACA has increased week to week during this year's enrollment period, from about 8,000 the third week, to 20,000 during the latest week.

So we can verify that more people are signing up for Obamacare, even though there's been little to no advertising of the enrollment period.
